  1. Unlike riding a bike, you can forget correct grammar. The more the practice it, the better you become at it. I have never been a strong speller and along with that I’ve never truly understood all the rules of grammar. Yet, I love to write and I feel as if I’m a person I have a lot to say. I used to write in these big journals, which I still have stashed away in my room somewhere, but I was never really a strong writer in school and my friends always picked on me (in a joking manner) about my spelling. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that it’s really what you’re saying that people should listen to. Is grammar important? YES, very much so and if a person’s grammar is bad sometimes it makes their writing hard to understand. But I don’t feel as if we should always nit-pick what someone writes because it’s WHAT they are saying that they want you to pay attention to. My little brother is going into 8th grade this year and his spelling is worse than mine, parcially because he’s dislexic, but I cringe because I know of all the people who are going to start making fun of him because he’s beginning to text and write papers and he can’t spell. But if you’ll just listen to the boy he can tell a beautiful story. I was in advanced classes and was a decent speller and people still picked on me so I can only image what people will say to him. If you make fun of people or constantly criticize them for stuff like that it makes them not want to write anymore, even if they have something to say. It makes me not want to write sometimes. I’m so parinoind about grammatically screwing up that sometimes I’ll erase a whole blog because I know that there were sentences I didn’t word right. This is all melodramatic seeming I’m sure and it is just one side of things but I just wanted everyone to see it from this side too. Moses had a stuttering problem and God called him to speak. I have a spelling problem but maybe God is still calling me to write.

    • This was in no way a strike at anyone personally nor do I think it was nitpicking. I read about 100 blogs a day and they are riddled with spelling mistakes and most of them are professional bloggers. If God is calling you to write, then write! Grammar is important in a professional career. That’s what this post was geared toward. Not to you or anyone else. Holley, you know me and know I wouldn’t be that way.

      • Oh yeah I didn’t mean that you were calling someone out! I was just wanting to show a different side to things. I wanted to show that some people just can’t spell as well. It’s not ALWAYS because they aren’t trying, maybe it just doesn’t come natural. But what you and Shelby said is still true, correct grammar does make you more attractive.
